Genuine Batik by Applying Holographic Stickers
The Association of Indonesian Handicraft Exporters and Producers (Asephi) of Pekalongan City, Central Java, will strengthen the branding of genuine batik by applying holographic stickers to batik as a guarantee of the authenticity of the product.
Head of Asephi Pekalongan City Romi Oktabirawa said the application of the batik hologram at the same time anticipates the spread of batik-patterned textiles or "printing" which dominates the batik market.
"Therefore, Asephi will become a batik guarantee institution. The application of hologram stickers on batik is to strengthen the original Batik branding," said Romi in Pekalongan, Thursday (25/02/2016).
According to him, the consideration of the United Nations Agency for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) is to give appreciation to batik as a form of culture, not an object of human heritage because it is related to the process, not because of the motive.
"Therefore, we want to strengthen the original batik branding as an effort to protect consumers," he said.
He gave an example during the Inacraft exhibition in Jakarta some time ago, there were consumers who bought original batik but it turned out that the batik they bought was a type of stamped batik.
"They say it's original batik, it turns out to be 'printing' even though the price is quite high. We don't want to isolate stamped batik, but just want there to be honesty in selling the product," he said.
He said the application of the hologram sticker on the original batik will begin at the Inacraft exhibition in Jakarta, April 20-24.
"We will make a holographic sticker showing the original batik. Later, the Inacraft booth will be marked with the sticker," he said.
