Batik Banyuwangi Campaign at Blambangan Fashion on Pedestrian Event

Banyuwangi - The Banyuwangi Regency Government held a batik fashion show, on a pedestrian in the creative space area, the Blambangan Art and Culture Building (Gesibu), Friday afternoon (30/9/2022).

This event is a forum for the creativity of young Banyuwangi models and designers, as well as the "Proud to be Made in Indonesia" campaign.

At the Fashion on Pedestrian event, which is a series of Banyuwangi Batik Festival (BBF) events, 100 models from the category of children to adults strolled on the creative space sidewalk of the Taman Blambangan RTH area which was transformed into a catwalk. They gracefully demonstrated a variety of batik clothing with the scales motif.

These models brought their own batik designs as well as collaborations with local designers. The fashion themes presented range from casual, party wear, to work attire.

When the show started, these local models looked like professional models. Starting with the children's category, a variety of casual batik clothing with bright colors also dominates.

Continuing with the category of teenagers who brought party clothes, batik cloth was successfully transformed into various clothes that seemed elegant and luxurious. Followed by a parade of work clothes presented by the adult category who appeared with more formal clothing designs. This event was then closed with a parade of dozens of oversized models who demonstrated the adult category of party clothes.

"This is a way to support the creative sector industry, especially batik, in Banyuwangi. We will continue to hold this kind of event as one of the drivers of economic recovery," said Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani when opening the event.

The Banyuwangi Batik on Pedestrian event has been held regularly every year since 2013 as a series of events for the Banyuwangi Batik Festival (BBF). After being suspended for two years due to the c0v1d-i9 pandemic, the batik fashion parade on the sidewalks was held again this year.

"Through this event, we hope that local batik artisans will get back on track. They will return to creativity after being stagnant due to the pandemic, and of course the orders for batik cloth will also recover," said Ipuk.

For Ipuk, BBF is also a place for the creativity of local young people who have a passion for fashion, especially batik. In addition, as a means of campaigning for local products.

"This is in accordance with President Jokowi's direction so that we are all proud to use domestic products. Let's support the Proudly Made in Indonesia program," said Ipuk.

Ipuk also emphasized that this kind of event will continue to be held in Banyuwangi. “We believe that by continuing to provide a stage like this, we will be able to raise the seeds of potential regional designers. In addition, this is also a way to foster the love of young people for batik cloth, which is the nation's cultural heritage,” said Ipuk.

This event was enthusiastically welcomed by the participants. One of them, Aliena Miesha from SMA 2 Taruna Bhayangkara, Genteng. On this occasion Aliena demonstrated a party dress that she designed herself with her mother.

"It's nice to be able to join again. I've been there before, then vacuumed because of the pandemic. This is an opportunity to share my passion," said Aliena.

Banyuwangi Batik on Pedestrian received positive appreciation from designer Philip Iswardono, a national designer who has been involved in this fashion event several times. According to him, this year's fashion event in Banyuwangi has improved in quality.

"The creativity of the participants is getting better. They just need a little assistance so that they understand the theme better. For example, what is the correct concept for party wear, so that their designs can really be accepted by the market,? said Philips.
