Batik Sasambo by SMKN 5 Mataram Sent to Saudi Arabia for School Uniforms

MATARAM, Batik Sasambo by students of Mataram State Vocational High School (SMKN) 5 managed to penetrate foreign countries such as Saudi Arabia. The batik is even used as a school uniform.


"Batik Sasambo products have been sent 150 batik cloths to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to be made into uniforms. Every Thursday the uniforms are worn by teachers and students in Indonesian schools," said Principal of SMKN 5 Mataram, Istiqlal in Mataram, Tuesday (4/10/2022). ).

The Batik Sasambo is taken from the names of three tribes in NTB, namely the Sasak Tribe, the Samawa Tribe, and the Mbojo Tribe. Istiqlal also said that the batik motifs produced were printed batik, stamped batik, and written batik or canting. Batik Tulis or Canting is the most difficult batik in the manufacturing process and has a high price value, he continued.

In addition, the producer of Sasambo batik is also a student majoring in batik textiles, alumni of the school.

Currently, as many as 1,500 Sasambo batik cloths have been sold. The plan is that this year the sales target is up to 2,000 batik fabrics. The income obtained from the sale of Sasambo batik will be turned back into production capital.

Batik Sasambo SMKN 5 Mataram is also active in participating in exhibitions and bazaars both inside and outside the region. The promotion also uses social media to introduce and market their batik.

In addition, SMKN 5 Mataram also provides training for schools and community groups.

"In the future, we hope to open a large outlet and we will collaborate with other majors such as jewelry and metal, and will make the outlet a tourist destination," he said.
