Celebrate World Batik Day, Kadin DIY: Batik Craftsmen Capacity is Still a Homework

Jogjakarta - As an intangible cultural heritage category of the Archipelago that has been designated by UNESCO since 2009, batik continues to be developed. However, the problem is the capacity of batik's human resources (HR) which still needs to be improved.

Deputy Chairperson for Organization and Membership of the DIY Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Robby Kusumaharta said batik in DIY was able to drive the economy. One of them is to support the tourism and fashion sectors. It's just that there are still things that need to be done, namely increasing the capacity of human resources for good craftsmen.

If the capacity of the batik maker continues to increase, he said, it will certainly increase the class of batik produced.

In addition, continued Robby, the increase in human resources for batik also has an impact on increasing the entrepreneurs they run. Another impact, the increase in human resources for batik can increase the transformation in the world of batik to the international arena.

In 2015, the export of batik in DIY was quite high but gradually until now it continues to decrease so that a strategy is needed to again increase batik exports.

"Thus, it is necessary to create a standardization of batik so that the existence of batik for the prosperity of the community is expected to be realized," he said on the sidelines of the celebration of the DIY Dekranasda Batik Day, Monday (3/10/2022).

The head of the DIY MSMEs Dinkop, Srie Nurkyatsiwi, said that there were still problems to improve the economy of SMEs/IKM actors. Based on Bappenas data, he said, the productivity and continuity of SMEs/IKM in DIY is still low.

Product marketing, said Siwi, must also be carried out in a networked manner, including the need for digital transformation for SMEs/IKM actors in DIY.

"SME/IKM actors are still independent, so collaboration is needed. To increase human resource capacity, various programs are still being carried out," he said.

Deputy Chairperson of the DIY Dekranasda Gusti Kanjeng Bendara Raden Ayu (GKBRAy) Adipati Paku Alam X hopes that the collaborative efforts made between batik makers are expected to revive the batik industry in DIY.

"The key lies in good programs and activities that are carried out collaboratively and synergistically between agencies," he said
