Bringing Nusantara Heritage “KAI Batik Roadshow” at Yogyakarta Station Welcomes Tourists

Yogyakarta Train Station becomes more than just a transportation terminal during the 2024/2025 New Year (Nataru) season. With the theme "Exploring Batik, Preserving History," PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) presents the "Batik Roadshow" exhibition that combines art, culture, and the history of Indonesian transportation.

The event, which took place from 21 to 31 December, was held to welcome hundreds of thousands of tourists who crowded this cultural city.

Yogyakarta remains the main tourist magnet during the Nataru holiday. Data from 19 to 23 December 2024 at 08.00 WIB recorded the arrival of 87,710 tourists by long-distance train at the city's two major stations, namely Yogyakarta Station and Lempuyangan Station.

In detail, Yogyakarta Station received 58,459 passengers, while Lempuyangan Station recorded 29,251 passengers.

"Overall, passengers arriving at all stations in the Daop 6 Yogyakarta area, including Solo Balapan, Wates, and Purwosari, from December 19 to December 23 reached 140,586 people. This number does not include 117,891 Commuter Line users and 39,926 Airport Train users in the same period," said KAI Vice President of Public Relations Anne Purba.

Yogyakarta Station, as one of the main integration stations, also recorded a significant number of local train users. In the period from December 19-22, 29,956 Commuter Line users and 39,926 Airport Train users arrived at this station.

"We are proud to welcome hundreds of thousands of tourists who make Yogyakarta their main destination during Christmas and New Year. This city offers the perfect combination of natural beauty, cultural richness, and friendly people," said KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Executive Vice President Bambang Respationo.

The Charm of Batik Amidst the Pulse of Transportation

The exhibition “Exploring Batik, Preserving History” became the center of attention during the event. With a collaboration with Lawasan Batik and Esca Design Studio, this exhibition showcased 30 collections of Vorstenlanden batik that were full of philosophy. Not only that, installation art and interior design that focused on the history of the railway also enriched the visitor experience.

“Yogyakarta Station, as one of the oldest stations in Indonesia, is a strategic location to convey the message of cultural preservation to the younger generation. The train is not only a means of transportation, but also a link between traditions. Through this exhibition, we want to invite the public to love the history and cultural heritage of Indonesia, namely batik,” added Bambang.

In addition to enjoying the beauty of the batik collection, visitors can take part in various interesting activities such as classical, acoustic, and harmonica music performances. There is also a “Nyanting and Healing” session that provides visitors with a direct batik experience. All activities are designed to strengthen the relationship between the younger generation and the arts and culture of the archipelago.

"As a tourist city, Yogyakarta not only offers natural beauty but also cultural heritage such as batik art, gamelan, and traditional dance. This exhibition is an opportunity for the public to get to know and love the richness of Indonesian culture that is present at Yogyakarta Station," said Bambang.

With the "KAI Batik Roadshow," Yogyakarta is not only a travel destination, but also a center for cultural appreciation that enriches the experience of tourists during Nataru.

This exhibition proves that art and history can coexist in harmony, bringing pride to current and future generations. (red)
