Gedog Tuban Batik Craftsmen Proud of Their Work as Icon of National Batik Day 2024

 The celebration of National Batik Day (HBN) 2024, Wednesday (02/10) was greeted with enthusiasm at the "Proud of Batik" exhibition held by the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) and the Indonesian Batik Foundation (YBI).


At this year's celebration, Tuban gedog batik was highlighted as the icon of HBN 2024, showcasing the beauty and uniqueness of the batik tradition passed down from generation to generation from the Tuban area, East Java.

At the exhibition, gedog batik craftsmen from Tuban shared their experiences and pride in participating in this national exhibition.

Nurida Dikarina from Batik Zaenal expressed her joy at being able to participate. "I am very happy to be able to participate in this exhibition. Thank you to the Tuban Regency Government and the Indonesian Batik Foundation for giving me this opportunity. It is very proud that gedog batik can become the icon of National Batik Day 2024," said Nurida, Thursday (03/10).


Meanwhile, the Head of Gaji Village, Kerek District, Tuban, Ratna Yunita who is also a 'Tuban Lockcan' gedog batik craftsman, admitted to being proud of the trust given to batik from her village.

"I am very proud that gedog batik is trusted to be the icon of HBN this year. I hope that with the support of the government and YBI, this batik industry can continue to grow and empower the community, especially in our village, Gaji Village, Kerek District," said Ratna.

Another craftsman, Uswatun Hasanah from Sekar Melati, also expressed her hope that gedog batik would be increasingly recognized, especially through the Geographical Indication (IG) application process which is currently underway.

"Thank you to the Tuban Regency Government and the Indonesian Batik Foundation for this opportunity. We hope that gedog batik will soon receive Geographical Indication status, so that it will further strengthen the identity of gedog batik as an original product of Tuban, especially in Kerek District. We hope that gedog batik can be better known throughout Indonesia and internationally," said Uswatun.

Previously at the opening, the wife of Pj. The Regent of Tuban, Yuan Erma Agung Subagyo, also gave great appreciation to the Tuban batik craftsmen. "Tuban batik has extraordinary uniqueness, starting from the manufacturing process to becoming the distinctive gedog batik weaving. I invite the younger generation to love batik more and maintain the sustainability of this culture," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Tuban Industry and Manpower Service (Disnakerin) Suwito added that the Tuban Regency Government feels very honored because gedog batik has become a national icon.

"We hope that gedog batik will be increasingly recognized internationally, and the participation of seven craftsmen from Tuban in this exhibition proves the quality and great potential of this batik," he said.

In this exhibition, several craftsmen who participated were Sekar Melati, Batik Zaenal, Nana Collection, Kurnia Batik, Radika Batik, Melati Mekar Mandiri and Tuban Lokchan. Their participation is expected to further elevate Tuban gedog batik as a cultural heritage and proud icon of Indonesia that is known worldwide
