Batik Lumajang On The Stage (Balos) 2024
Lumajang is again holding the annual Batik Lumajang On The Stage (Balos) 2024 event to celebrate Lumajang's Anniversary (Harjalu) 2024 in front of the Pendopo Arya Wiraraja Lumajang, Saturday, December 21, 2024.
With the theme Semayam Lembayung in Tanah Kirana, Balos 2024 is here with a fashion show competition and a variety of competitions in various categories.
Head of the Lumajang Regency Tourism Office, Yuli Harismawati in her remarks at the opening of Balos 2024 this morning, thanked all participants, committees and sponsors so that Batik Lumajang On The Stage could be held again this year.
"This activity is a manifestation of how the Lumajang Regency Government wants to introduce Batik Lumajang wastra (traditional cloth, -ed.) more widely," she said.
According to her, one of the efforts to make Batik Lumajang even better known is through events. Events organized by the Regency Government, Village Government, and communities in Lumajang are part of tourism.
"I often say, one of the tourism boosters to boost tourism, one of which is the event that continues to be developed, especially this Balos," he explained.
Balos 2024 is expected to be a magnet for the community, both from within and outside the region to witness the beauty and diversity of Lumajang Batik.
UMKM Batik Crafters of Lumajang Enjoy Increasing Orders
Nurul Huda, a Bambu Mujur batik craftsman from Sumbermujur Village, Candipuro, admitted that she was helped by the Batik Lumajang On The Stage event every year, because it was able to highlight the potential of Lumajang's unique batik.
"We are also helped by the collaboration of several Lumajang designers such as NK Couture, Tasya Maya, and several designers who wear Bambu Mujur batik," she said at Visit Lumajang.
Nurul Huda admitted that ahead of Balos, apart from several designers, many people ordered her batik products, both to be worn in the series of competitions and for everyday use.
"At least more than 16 products have come out during the 2024 Balos series, including the Acting Regent of Lumajang, Indah Wahyuni, who ordered 5 pairs of sarimbit batik," said Nurul Huda.
The same thing was also acknowledged by Ismoyo, an Ismoyo Batik craftsman, who was flooded with batik orders ahead of the implementation of Batik Lumajang On The Stage 2024. The expected side effect is to improve the economy of batik craftsmen in Lumajang.
Nurul Huda, the owner of Bambu Mujur batik, said that he started his home batik business in 2011, assisted by family members at his home in Sumbermujur Village, Candipuro.
"Initially, in Sumbermujur Village, a batik training group was formed which was initiated by the late Heri Gunawan, with around 30 members, receiving training and assistance from the Manpower Office and Diskopindag," said Nurul.
From there, he and the residents began to pursue the batik business, although from the group, only he has persisted in pursuing the batik business until now.
"Alhamdulillah, there is still assistance from the Lumajang Regency Government, especially the Trade and Industry Office, both in the form of easy licensing, training, and assistance with tools such as pans and stamp pans," he added.
Nurul Huda, who was also appointed as one of the judges for the Batik Motif Coloring Competition at Balos 2024, said that in a month he was able to sell at least 60 hand-drawn batik cloths, even up to 100 pieces for stamped batik.
"Most of our products are hand-drawn batik, except for certain orders or stamped batik uniforms. We continue to promote both through exhibitions and via social media, Alhamdulillah, apart from Lumajang orders, there are also many orders from outside the city," he said.
