Kudus Regency Government Holds Batik Design Competition for ASN Uniforms
KUDUS – The Kudus Regency Government is preparing a special batik motif as the official identity for State Civil Apparatus (ASN) through a Kudus characteristic batik design competition. The competition, organized under the coordination of the Kudus Regency Regional National Crafts Council (Dekranasda), is open to the general public, not limited to Kudus residents.
Chairwoman of Dekranasda Kudus, Endhah Endhayani, stated that ASN staff in the Kudus Regency Government have long been required to wear batik every Tuesday and Friday, but they have not yet had a unified regional-specific motif.
Therefore, according to Endhah, the Regent of Kudus has requested an official identity batik that represents the local wealth of Kudus.
“So far, the Kudus Regency Government has not had a special batik uniform for ASN, even though every Tuesday and Friday, ASN staff are required to wear batik with free motifs. Based on the Regent’s request, Kudus Regency must have its own batik that will be worn by ASN as the regional identity batik uniform,” Endhah said in Kudus on Monday, 11 May 2026.
She explained that registration for the competition has been announced through the local government’s official social media channels. Participants are given full freedom to join, provided the designs incorporate distinctive elements of Kudus.
“We are opening the opportunity as widely as possible, but the designs must contain characteristic elements of Kudus,” she said.
Meanwhile, Head of Tourism Division at the Kudus Culture and Tourism Agency, Bimo Sekti Bagus Tohari, said that design inspiration can be drawn from various local icons, ranging from symbols of Kudus City, traditional cuisine, agricultural products, historical buildings, tourist destinations, to the culture and traditions of the local community.
“Flora, fauna, and Kudus landscapes can also serve as design inspiration. The goal is to explore and promote Kudus’ local wealth so that it becomes more widely known,” he said.
The batik design competition is scheduled to open on 1 June 2026. Later, a jury team will select the 10 best works to be presented in August 2026 at the Kudus Regency Pendopo.
“The finalists must later present how the motif would look when applied to both men’s and women’s uniforms,” he added.
From the final stage, one best design will be chosen to be officially used as the batik motif for the identity uniform of Kudus Regency ASN. The committee will judge entries based on artistic aspects, ergonomics, production techniques, and potential for mass production.
The committee has prepared prizes ranging from Rp5 million to Rp10 million for the winners. In addition, the Kudus Regency Government is still discussing the possibility of providing royalties to the grand winner.
According to the competition rules, participants may submit a maximum of two designs. The works must be original, never previously published or entered into any competition, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is strictly prohibited.
Participants are also required to include a design philosophy description of approximately 200 words and adjust the motif concept so it can be applied to batik fabric measuring 2.3 meters x 1.15 meters.
“The winning designs will become the property and usage rights of the Kudus Regency Government,” the committee stated.
