Wooden Batik Decoration from Krebet Village, Bantul

So far, most people know batik only for clothes made of cloth. Whether it's a dress, shirt, skirt or negligee, headband or udeng, blangkon, even underpants. The latter, in our opinion, slightly undermines the elegant philosophical value of traditional batik.

In addition there are paintings from batik. Usually describes rural conditions, puppet characters, and human interest.

Now, there is also wooden batik. Certainly not for clothes.

This wooden batik is painted on mahogany and sengon wood which is widely grown around Yogyakarta and also Jepara.

This wooden batik is a product of the people of Krebet Village, Bantul - Yogyakarta.

As with batik painting, so also wooden batik is only for decoration. There are puppet characters from the Ramayana and Mahabharata stories. There is also the Menak Puppet which is a Yogyakarta puppet show. It's just that what is produced in Krebet Village is in the form of masks.

In addition, there is also wooden batik in the form of tissue boxes, boxes for storing valuable objects, or decorations in the form of elephants, dragons, masks, and pen holders.
