Rembang, Good news for the people of Rembang. Batik Tulis Lasem will be a souvenir or souvenir at the G20 Summit. Lasem's special written batik cloth that was specially ordered will be in the form of a scarf or shawl.
One of Batik Tulis Lasem artisans, Santoso Hartono, said that his party was very honored and proud to be one of the MSMEs that provided souvenirs for the G20 delegates.
Currently, his party has received orders for 100 Lasem batik cloths for the G20 Presidency activities. However, so far it has only sent 60 pieces of batik cloth.
“Initially, it was a collaboration with the Fashion Design Study Program of Maranatha Christian University and APR (Asia Pacific Rayon) in research activities held by Mitras DUDI, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. Making batik for scarves, for souvenirs for ministers who came to the G20," said Santosa Hartono to reporters, Friday (23/9/2022).
Santoso added that currently there are only 100 orders.
"It's been sent twice. Thirty, thirty," he explained.
Santosa explained, the process of making one piece of Lasem batik cloth takes more than a week. Starting from the initial process of drawing the pattern, to the coloring process.
“One cloth can take up to one week to make the process of batik. From the pattern drawing and plus about five days for coloring. The old coloring, because it uses natural ingredients. So it must be repeated to get the maximum color, "he added.
Santoso explained that the motif of Batik Tulis Lasem cloth which will be used as a souvenir at the G20 Summit has been determined. Namely adopting Lasem's typical batik motifs such as latohan and kricak motifs.
As for the coloring method itself, it still uses traditional techniques and uses natural dyes, making it environmentally friendly.

"For the motive has been determined, the motive is kricak, latohan. Wear natural colors. From natural ingredients, from woody leaves. So it is environmentally friendly,” he added.
According to Santosa, the use of colors from natural materials has several advantages. For example, the colors produced on the fabric seem more muted. In addition, the batik process is considered not to pollute the environment.
"The advantage of using natural dyes is that the colors can be softer and of course they don't pollute the environment," he said.
Santosa added that his party hopes that the election of Batik Tulis Lasem cloth at the upcoming G20 Presidency International event can bring the name of Lasem's written batik to the world.
"Hopefully, with this election, we can raise the name of Lasem's written batik to be more global, and introduce the heritage city of Lasem," he concluded.
