Blitar - Recently, batik has been discussed again by the public, especially basketball lovers. The reason is, Justin Holiday, an American professional basketball player from the Indiana Pacers club at the National Basketball Association (NBA) recently ordered batik specifically directly from batik craftsmen from Blitar.
As is known, Batik is one of the cultural heritages from Indonesia that has been recognized by UNESCO. By ordering batik directly by professional NBA basketball players from their craftsmen, it indicates that batik is increasingly going international.
In this case, Holiday ordered the batik specifically for native Blitar craftsmen, namely Yogi Rodianta and Santika, as the owner of Batik Mawar Putih, with the intention of promoting batik to be better known in the eyes of the world.
“The main goal is to introduce batik internationally through several fields. One of them is Justin Holiday and the NBA," said Yogi.
Justin Holiday is known as an NBA player who really likes batik. In fact, last year, this 32-year-old man had uploaded a photo of himself wearing batik with the caption of the star and the Indonesian flag on his Instagram account @justholla7.

This batik ordered by Justin holiday carries the concept of Indonesian motifs. More specifically about the characteristics of East Java such as the Garuda bird motif, the Penataran Temple which is an icon of East Java.
In addition, there are also pictures of traditional East Javanese musical instruments such as Jimbe, and Jaranan complete with a whip or whip.
Each motif on the batik has its own meaning. Garuda bird motif which symbolizes the state of Indonesia. Not only that, there is also the gate of the tomb of Indonesia's first president, Bung Karno, which indicates that the batik was originally produced from the city of Blitar. Also, the Kuda Lumping motif means a combination of two cultures, namely Indonesia and America.
Not even half-hearted on the shirt, a special design was made with the initials JH and the logo of the basketball team, none other than the Indiana Pacers.
The batik designs made for Justin Holiday still use traditional production, namely hand-drawn batik using canting. The fabric used to make batik shirts also uses primisima cotton or grade A cotton.
