Sragen's Batik Tulis Receives Appreciation from First Lady Iriana Jokowi

Sragen - Batik Sragen received appreciation from the First Lady, Iriana Joko Widodo. According to him, the efforts of batik craftsmen and entrepreneurs in addition to preserving the heritage of batik Tulis, are also able to boost the economy after the pandemic.


This was revealed by Iriana when ending her visit with the wife of the Vice President, Wury Ma'ruf Amin and members of the Solidarity Action Organization for the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet Era (OASE KIM) at the Batik Windasari Showroom, Kliwonan, Masaran, Thursday (22/9/2022).

Iriana and her entourage also immediately saw the process of batik tulis production. They had a dialogue with batik artisans, the majority of whom are housewives.

Furthermore, Iriana and her companion to the Ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet were seen buying up various types of batik to be distributed as mementos from Bumi Sukowati.

Sragen Regent, dr. Kusdinar Untung Yuni Sukowati said that the First Lady and her entourage admitted that the original batik of Sragen was better and cheaper than other regions.

"The First Lady and the ladies of the OASE were shopping for batik to support SMEs in Sragen. She had seen the batik, she was happy with the batik in Sragen, she said the batik was smooth," said Yuni.

He admitted that Sragen batik is indeed popular with the public and even among the officials.

"Batik Sragen is much liked by officials. Even though they sell some outside Sragen. There are also many manufacturers, so you can buy them directly. If it looks expensive here, it's more expensive out there," said Yuni.

The First Lady, said Regent Yuni, chose her own batik motif and ordered it directly for her family and President, Joko Widodo. According to him, the First Lady's group was happy and at home at the Kliwonan Batik Center.

"Earlier, he bought batik, he ordered it himself for the benefit of the family. And earlier he saw batik, oh this is good for you (Joko Widodo)," said Yuni.

Not only Iriana and the wives of the ministers who bought batik, the wife of the Vice President, Wury Ma'ruf Amin also bought a number of batiks.

"Miss Vice President also bought a lot. She said she also bought it for my father," said Yuni.
