Kendal - Dozens of elementary, middle, vocational and special schools students enthusiastically participated in the Kendal Regency Batik Student Presentation, along with the Chairperson of the Kendal PKK TP, Wynne Frederica, to welcome the 2022 National Batik Day, which was held at SMK Negeri 1 Kendal, Tuesday (20/9/2022).
In this activity, representatives of students from elementary, junior high and vocational schools as well as from special schools made batik in 10 meters cloth, with motifs about the potential in Kendal. There are mountains, beaches, agricultural products, plantations, plants and so on.
The chairman of the Kendal TP PKK, Wynne Frederica said, before talking about batik at the international level, of course, you must know how batik is in your own country.
"I really hope that the First Lady and the President, Pak Jokowi, can wear Kendal's original batik. Because of his support as the leader of this country, it is very influential for all of us in the region,” he said enthusiastically.
The woman who is familiarly called Chaca and is also an artist hopes that this activity can inspire the students to love and preserve the batik culture.
“Batik is a craft with high artistic value that has been part of Indonesian culture since time immemorial. Batik itself also has a long history, where every pattern or motif contains a philosophy or meaning that is so closely related to the values of life," he said.
Chaca emphasized that this activity is a first step to become something big. For this reason, he asked for activities to start with students from various backgrounds, participating in batik.
"God willing, the batik made by elementary, middle, vocational and even SLB students, I will use at the National Batik Day event in October 2022. I don't want to just order certain batik, but I want children to make batik," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Education and Culture Office of Kendal Regency, Wahyu Yusuf Akhmadi said, since the stipulation of batik as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, the government has set October 2 as National Batik Day.
Wahyu hopes that by holding this activity, it can bring benefits to the younger generation to preserve the batik culture.
“Students are taught to never give up. This activity is also in order to teach students to appreciate a process, while at the same time fostering an entrepreneurial spirit,” he added.
