Batik Craftsmen Probolinggo Take Professional Competency Certification

Probolinggo - A total of 31 batik craftsmen throughout the City of Probolinggo participated in the batik professional competency certification. The competency test was held by the local DKUPP in collaboration with the Batik Professional Certification Institute (LSP) which took place in the DKUPP meeting room, Tuesday (4/10).

The batik professional competency certification facilitation program aims to develop a more conducive creative economy ecosystem for creative economy actors, especially the batik profession in Probolinggo City. At the same time as the government's efforts to improve the professionalism and competitiveness of batik craftsmen in the face of market competition.

"Certified batik craftsmen will add high competitiveness and their products are ready to be marketed, especially at the international level," explained the Head of DKUPP, Fitriawati.

In addition, through this program and to coincide with the commemoration of National Batik Day on October 2, his party wants to give awards to batik craftsmen in Probolinggo City so that they are more qualified and competitive. “There are many and quality batiks in Probolinggo City. We deserve to be equated with batik from other regions. However, if you don't have a competency certification, you will still be questioned, especially if the batiks are to be exported," he explained.

Fitri hopes that batik craftsmen in Probolinggo City will continue to be creative and not stop working by always exploring new ideas. So that the creative efforts of batik craftsmen can become the mainstay of Probolinggo City.

Meanwhile, Head of LSP Batik Rodia Syamwil said that as part of the commemoration of Batik Day, 200 batik craftsmen were awarded certifications. “This certificate is proof that someone has competence in a certain field. We have never tested it in Probolinggo City and we facilitate it only on the ability to canting, this is what is called occupation,” he said.

This refers to the SKKNI Decree of the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia Number 104 of 2018, the occupational-based scheme consists of 14 schemes. They consist of a batik drawing artist, a pattern maker, a batik motif designer, a batik maker, a stamp maker, a night maker, a synthetic color designer, a natural color dyer, a lorod craftsman, a canting maker, a canting stamp maker, and a computer batik motif designer.

In this activity, batik craftsmen will take part in a series of competency tests and will be assessed by the LSP Batik assessor team. “The test is actually looking for evidence, if the documents such as certificates, awards, etc. are complete, then it is considered sufficient. So it's just an interview related to his insight. However, if the documentary evidence is insufficient, it must be proven through practice,” he explained.

Rodia added that the competency certification test only lasted one day. “Recommendations from assessors will be given immediately and then we will bring these recommendations to the LSP plenary meeting. This evidence will be re-examined and sent to the BNSP (National Professional Certification Agency),” he added.

Rodia hopes that batik craftsmen who have received competency certification will really be able to improve the quality of batik in Indonesia, especially for the City of Probolinggo.
