This batik motif, typical of Nusakambangan, Cilacap, Central Java, is popular among the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Central Java Regional Office due to its unique shape and color combination. In the hands of WBP batik artisans, various creative colors were born from this Wijayakusuma batik motif.

In addition to attractive colors and shapes, this Wijayakusuma batik motif has magical powers behind it. To commemorate National Batik Day which falls every October 2, you need to know the meaning behind the Wijayakusuma motif. Here, the full explanation.

In 2022, Batik Nusakambangan again showcases its newest motif, "Wijayakusuma Nusakambangan". The philosophy contained in this batik is penguripan or in Indonesian means livelihood. Mardi Santoso, Kalapas Permisan Nusakambangan explained that this batik is made with the hope that the wearer can have a beautiful life and have a position that is respected by the community.

"So Wijayakusuma means something authoritative as well as soothing," said Mardi Santoso.

Mardi Santoso further explained that etymologically, wijayakusuma comes from two words, namely wijaya and kusuma. In the Old Javanese language, wijaya means victory/success, while kusuma means flower. The wijayakusuma flower is synonymous with the coronation tradition of Javanese kings. For the ancient Javanese kingdoms, the wijayakusuma flower was a symbol of the guardian god.

Therefore, the newly inaugurated king will usually get a wijayakusuma flower as a reminder to care for and protect his people well.

"Because of the significant role in Javanese culture and the noble values contained in it, this is what inspired the creation of "Wijayakusuma Nusakambangan" batik, concluded Mardi Santoso.
