Batik Tulis Made by Prisoners in Semarang Kedungpane Prison
Semarang - Prisoners or inmates at the Class I Correctional Institution (Lapas) Semarang receive training and education to fill their time in prison with various positive activities.
Many types of training are provided, one of which is batik tulis training which has its own characteristics.
In fact, this batik made by Semarang prison inmates has also been sold. The general public is ordered on demand such as facial images or Javanese motifs.
The head of the prison, Tri Saptono Sambudji, said that batik activities have become a daily activity for prisoners in prisons.
"They have resources that must be developed for those who have the talent to make batik," said Tri Saptono when contacted by the PR team, Saturday (11/9/2022).
"The hope is that the selling value of batik written in Semarang prison can be more exclusive, can compete and be respected among other batik works," he hoped.
The workings of this written batik work using canting filled with colored ink to paint engraved motifs that have been increasingly engraved on cloth leaflets. Of course with good quality, does not fade and lasts a long time.
Meanwhile, Dani, one of the inmates who participated in the written batik development program at the prison, admitted that he was very enthusiastic about this batik activity. According to him, this activity will be a skill capital for him when he returns to the community tomorrow.
“Frankly, I am very happy with this batik activity. I have new skills and will pursue this batik business when I am free,” said the 5-year drug convict. (ks)
