MTs Tangho Students Learn to Make Batik on National Batik Day

Banjarnegara – Commemoration of National Batik Day is one of the annual commemorations which is held every October 2nd. The goal is to interpret batik as one of Indonesia's artistic and cultural wealth.

Batik has become a cultural heritage and part of the lives of Indonesian people who are used in everyday life both in important events and daily routines such as for holding babies, symbolizing weddings, funeral ceremonies, home decorations, state events and so on.

On this commemoration Monday (3/10), Madsarah Tsanwiyah Tanbihul Ghofilin held a simultaneous batik learning activity in the courtyard of the Tanbihul Ghofilin Islamic Boarding School. It seemed enthusiastic from all students in participating in batik activities.

Under the command of Mrs. Umi Labibah as the Deputy Principal for Student Affairs, all participants must produce one piece of batik work. He took one of the batik motifs which is quite well known in Indonesia and is easier to manufacture, namely Batik Jumputan.

“I took the jumputan batik motif because it is easier to make and preparing the tools and materials is also easy to reach. With only cloth material, rope to tie, batik dye, and gloves, all participants are able to start learning how to make Batik Jumputan,” he said.

On the same occasion, Mrs. Ratna Puspita as the coach and trainer of batik, also explained about the manufacturing technique and the ease of making Batik Jumputan.

“Batik Jumputan is the easiest batik to make and requires uncomplicated tools and materials. There are two techniques in making jumputan batik, namely the tie technique and the sewing technique. The tying technique is a technique that avoids immersing tight ties into a color so that when the ties are untied, the image is formed. Meanwhile, the sewing technique is a fabric that is given an excess pattern first to be sewn with a basting stitch on the color line using thread, then the thread is pulled as tightly as possible until the fabric is wrinkled as tightly as possible," he concluded.

Please note that, one of the famous Batik Jumputan motifs is the tie dye motif. Because the manufacturing process is easy to do even for beginners though.
