Serang City Dindikbud Promotes Batik Through Fashion Show Competition
The first step is to socialize the results of batik work from Serang City to the public.
The Serang City Education and Culture Service (Dindikbud) is holding a Serang City Batik Fashion Show Competition from elementary, middle school and high school/vocational school levels throughout Serang City in 2021 at one of the hotels in Serang City, Monday 29 November 2021.
"This is the first step, gradually introducing that Serang City has batik production," said the Head of the Serang City Education and Culture Office, Alpedi, to reporters.
According to Alpedi, the existence of Serang City batik is relatively new, after Serang Mayor Regulation Number 40 of 2019 concerning the Utilization of Serang Typical Batik Motifs.
"Serang City Batik has just been born, therefore we need to socialize it to the community," he explained.
According to Alpedi, fashion shows are part of the culture of how to dress, the values inherited from ancestors. Therefore, the Serang City Government has an interest in developing cultural values.
"So that children can get to know the typical batik of Serang City, including Serang City batik, which can be socialized to the wider community," he said.
"We appreciate that in the future Serang City Batik can compete with Jogyakarta, Solo, Pontianak and Banjarmasin batik," added Alpedi.
In the same place, the Head of Culture at the Serang City Education and Culture Department, Evie Sofiyah Usman, said that the activity, which was attended by around 100 students in Serang City, apart from strengthening friendship, also promoted the typical batik of Serang City.
"Batik is the identity of Serang City, with this activity we can promote the beauty of Serang City batik," he explained.
Evie explained that in the fashion show, the participants wore Serang City batik with various motifs. There are six existing batik motifs, namely the drum batik motif, sawung pathok, tower, milkfish satay, paduraksa, almadad.
"We want to socialize it, so that Serang City batik is known nationally or even internationally," he said.
