Batik Larasjati Creation from SMAN 1 Jatibarang Wins First Place at Brebes Krenova
Brebes - Student creativity in Brebes Regency has once again achieved a proud accomplishment. SMAN 1 Jatibarang successfully won first place in the student category at the Creative and Innovative Society Award (Krenova) through their contemporary batik innovation titled Batik Larasjati.
The event, organized by the Brebes Regency Government through the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (Bapperida), was held alongside the Brebes Regency Regional Innovation Index (IID) Award. It took place on Tuesday (12/5/2026) in the 5th-floor auditorium of the Brebes Integrated Government Office (KPT).
Batik Larasjati is a development of Jatibarang’s signature batik motifs that combines local cultural values with modern design touches. The name “Larasjati” comes from the word "laras, meaning harmonious or balanced, and "jati", taken from the name Jatibarang.
This concept is realized through motifs inspired by local history, particularly the legacy of the Jatibarang Sugar Factory from the Dutch colonial era. Elements incorporated into the design include factory smokestacks, locomotive remnants, and sugarcane motifs, blended with traditional regional patterns and modern color choices.
This creative approach made the work by SMAN 1 Jatibarang students stand out and highly competitive. The achievement proves that innovation can flourish among students when creativity and the courage to express themselves are continuously encouraged.
The teacher representative from SMAN 1 Jatibarang expressed appreciation for the students’ success in creating a work that is not only creative but also rich in cultural value.
“The students have shown that local culture can be developed into something attractive, modern, and proud. We hope this achievement motivates other students to keep creating and to love their regional culture,” she said.
Brebes Regent Paramitha Widya Kusuma, represented by Assistant for Economy and Development Ineke Tri Sulistyowaty, stated that the Krenova event is not merely a ceremonial award, but a real manifestation of an innovation culture growing in Brebes Regency.
“This year, 53 innovation works participated. This shows that the creative potential of Brebes people is very large and continues to develop,” she said.
She also appreciated all Krenova 2026 participants and winners, expressing hope that the resulting innovations will continue to be developed and provide real benefits to the community.
On the same occasion, the Brebes Regency Government announced the 2025 Regional Innovation Index (IID) achievement with a score of 69.10, placing it in the “Highly Innovative” category.
Meanwhile, Head of Bapperida Brebes Regency Tety Yuliana said that the Krenova and IID awards serve as strategic steps to explore and develop innovation potential, both from students and the general public.
She hopes that the various innovation works will not stop at the competition stage but can develop into economically valuable products that benefit society and drive regional economic growth.
“The innovations created by students and the community are expected to be patented and widely publicized. In the future, they may attract investors or parties ready to develop these works so they have economic value and contribute to the economic growth of Brebes Regency,” she added.
Tety further explained that Krenova winners will receive mentoring so their innovations can be maximized and become more competitive, both at the regional and national levels.
