How to MTsN 1 Solo Fill the Mid-Semester Break by Making Batik Together
Solo - Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri (MTsN) 1 Solo held a Joint Batik activity, Monday (3/10/2022). In addition to filling the odd mid-semester break, the activity was held to commemorate National Batik Day. The activity also aims to provide education and introduce cultural heritage.
Head of Madrasah, Nurul Qomariyah in her speech said that October 2, 2009 was the date that UNESCO declared batik as a human heritage for oral and non-material culture.
"Since then, every October 2 is celebrated as National Batik Day. This international recognition is one of the highest forms of appreciation for Indonesian culture," said Nurul as reported by Eduwara.com, Tuesday (4/10/2022), from the Ministry of Religion website ( Ministry of Religion) Solo.
Nurul also said that the students of MTsN 1 Solo should be proud to wear batik clothes on that day. This is also one of the awards for batik.
The batik activity began with the direction of one of the Cultural Arts Teachers, Era Oktaviana, regarding technical instructions and tools for dyeing batik materials. Era said the tools and materials used were brushes, marbles/stones, 1x1 meter cloth, buckets/basins, rubber/raffia rope, and remashol dye.
“Today we will make a type of tie dye. The first thing to do is prepare the tools and materials. The motive to be made is determined first. If you want to make a jumputan motif, you have to prepare pebbles and rubber. If you want to make a Sibhori or Tye Die motif, you have to prepare folds," explained Era to the students.
After receiving an explanation, students who have formed groups with their groups prepare a mat for making batik in the madrasa yard. Each group makes a motif according to their wishes followed by coloring. After being dyed, the cloth is dried in the madrasa parking lot.
Furthermore, all the students seemed enthusiastic in participating in the activity. One of the students, Fina, didn't expect that dyed tie batik was not as difficult as she imagined.
"I don't think it's as difficult as it seems. Everything feels easy and fun because it is done in groups,” said Fina, who is also a student of class VII Science 4.
The session he liked the most, he continued, was the coloring session, because during the coloring session they could express their creativity. Even though it was the first experience in dyeing batik, it was able to cultivate the creativity of each student.
Another Arts and Culture teacher, Danang Ari Prabowo hopes that the Joint Batik activity is expected to make madrasa students love batik more and be proud to have batik culture.
"Hopefully they will not only love and be proud but also preserve the batik culture with their knowledge of the methods and practices," he hoped.
