Disperindag Yogyakarta Holds a Batik Festival to Help the Batik Industry Grow

The Special Region of Yogyakarta's Department of Industry and Trade (Disperindag) conducted a Batik Festival to boost the potential of small and medium batik enterprises and their derivatives in the province's regencies and towns.

"The goal of the 2022 Batik Festival is to develop the potential of batik small and medium industries (IKM) and their derivatives in Yogyakarta, as well as to preserve cultural heritage, particularly batik," said Syam Arjayanti, Head of the DIY Industry and Trade Department, at the opening of the 2022 Batik Festival on Wednesday at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC) Bantul Regency.

She said that the Batik Festival with the subject "Jagaddhita Batik Jogja is Special Worldwide," which included a batik exhibition from October 19 to 23, 2022, a batik seminar on October 20, and a batik fashion show, sought to keep Yogyakarta's reputation as the World Batik City.

According to her, one embodiment of the Hamemayu Hayuning Bawono philosophy is the direction and development of the industrial and trade sectors as part of efforts to empower the community's economy.

Yogyakarta has already been declared the World Batik City by the World Craft Council (WCC) in Dongyang, China, on October 18, 2014. This accolade was conferred because DIY was considered to have satisfied the WCC's seven World Craft City requirements.

Historical value, creativity, conservation efforts via regeneration, economic value, environmental friendliness, worldwide renown, and consistency are the seven criteria.

To retain this existence and the repercussions of Yogyakarta's coronation as the world's batik metropolis, the development and development of batik items must continue.

"This is projected to be a cultural and economic strength of the people in DIY, resulting in a rise in production and quality, increased income and community welfare, and the creation of business sectors in the framework of poverty reduction," he added.

There are also batik design contests in two categories at this Batik Festival, namely the general category and the student category, with 12 nominations for each category and 1, 2, and 3 winners and 1, 2, and 3 hopes.

Meanwhile, 170 IKM participated in the Batik Festival at the Batik Exhibition. Furthermore, 100 people attended the Batik Seminar, 80 people attended the fashion display, and 50 people attended the IKM Batik orientation study.
